Scrap metal prices differ from one country to the next even though copper, aluminium and steel are priced in US dollars on the world market: exchange rates, freight to the nearest mills and smelters, import and export rules and the number of competing buyers all move the local number. How country prices are built

Every country board starts from the global reference board in US dollars, applies a local market factor that reflects demand, freight and trade rules, and converts the result to the local currency and to the units that market quotes in: pounds and short tons in North America, kilograms and tonnes elsewhere. Boards refresh daily and show the time of the latest update. Some boards use modeled placeholder values until the live feed for that market is connected.
