Scrap Price Today publishes indicative daily prices for the scrap metals that change hands most often: copper, aluminum, brass, stainless steel, steel, iron, lead and zinc, plus grades such as car bodies, batteries, radiators, wire, cable, cast iron and electronic scrap. Every metal gets an entry on the price board, a daily change and a running history you can chart back over five years.
The site exists to answer one question quickly: what is scrap worth today, and which way is it moving. Sellers check it before they load a truck, yard operators use it to sanity-check their own board, and traders and researchers use the history to follow the market.
What we track
- 15 scrap types priced in US dollars per pound or per ton on the global board, and in local currency and units on 20 country pages.
- Candlestick price charts with open, high, low and close for the eight most traded metals.
- A scrap value calculator that turns a weight in pounds, kilograms or tons into an estimated payout.
- Catalytic converter prices by type and vehicle.
- Ten plain-language guides on grading, pricing, preparing and selling scrap.
How prices are compiled
Reference prices are derived from public market benchmarks (COMEX copper, CME aluminum and steel futures, NYMEX platinum and palladium, and IMF monthly series for lead, zinc and nickel) using typical yard recovery shares, then converted to each market’s currency and units. The full method, the update schedule and what “placeholder values” means are on the methodology page.
Every figure on the site is indicative. Actual yard prices depend on grade, contamination, quantity, location and the demand a yard is seeing from its own buyers. While live pricing feeds are being connected, some boards use modeled placeholder values; our editorial policy explains how.
Independence
Scrap Price Today is independently owned and operated. We do not buy or sell scrap metal, we do not take payment to list or rank any yard, and published prices are never adjusted for advertisers. If a price looks wrong to you, tell us and we will check it against our sources under our corrections policy.
