Copper scrap prices by grade in India
Copper is not one price. Yards grade it by cleanliness, coating and gauge, and the spread from the top grade to the bottom runs 25 to 35 percent. These are the same grades used on export contracts, converted to INR.
The scrap market in India
India is one of the largest importers of ferrous scrap in the world and a fast-growing consumer of copper and aluminium scrap, feeding thousands of induction furnaces and secondary smelters. Domestic prices are quoted per kilogram in rupees and follow MCX copper and aluminium futures, LME quotes and the rupee exchange rate.
Delhi's Mayapuri, Mumbai's Bhiwandi and Kalamboli belts, Chennai and Kolkata are the main trading hubs, with the Alang ship-recycling yards in Gujarat supplying heavy ferrous plate. Prices differ by several rupees per kilogram between cities on the same day.
