Copper scrap prices by grade in Pakistan
Copper is not one price. Yards grade it by cleanliness, coating and gauge, and the spread from the top grade to the bottom runs 25 to 35 percent. These are the same grades used on export contracts, converted to PKR.
The scrap market in Pakistan
Pakistan imports large volumes of ferrous scrap through Karachi to feed re-rolling and electric steel mills in Karachi, Lahore and Punjab, and the Gadani yards in Balochistan recycle ships into plate. Imported scrap in US dollars per tonne is the benchmark, converted at the rupee rate.
Non-ferrous scrap is traded through Karachi's Shershah market and Lahore's Misri Shah market, priced off international quotes; supply is thin, so copper and brass command firm prices.

The most valuable scrap by weight in Pakistan today: Copper at Rs 2,920 per kg, Brass at Rs 1,791 per kg, Radiator at Rs 1,675 per kg, Wire at Rs 1,407 per kg, Cable at Rs 940 per kg.
What you can expect to be paid in Pakistan
Scrap is weighed and paid by the kilogram in Pakistan, in PKR. Typical ranges are Copper: Rs 2,570 to Rs 3,270 per kg; Brass: Rs 1,575 to Rs 2,005 per kg; Aluminium: Rs 355 to Rs 450 per kg; Zinc: Rs 415 to Rs 530 per kg; Lead: Rs 275 to Rs 345 per kg; Stainless steel: Rs 265 to Rs 335 per kg. Across common non-ferrous grades that puts most material between Rs 265 and Rs 3,270 per kg, with copper at the top of the range and stainless steel near the bottom.
These are ranges rather than quotes. The band reflects day-to-day movement in the metal market and the spread between one yard and another, which our own research has found can reach 40 percent or more for the same metal in the same city. The midpoint is derived from the international exchange settlement converted to PKR and adjusted by our published market factor of 0.86. Expect a local buyer to sit toward the lower end, because they carry collection, sorting, processing and their own margin. Always confirm the rate per kilo for your specific grade before anything is weighed.
- Copper: Rs 2,570 to Rs 3,270 per kg
- Brass: Rs 1,575 to Rs 2,005 per kg
- Aluminium: Rs 355 to Rs 450 per kg
- Zinc: Rs 415 to Rs 530 per kg
- Lead: Rs 275 to Rs 345 per kg
- Stainless steel: Rs 265 to Rs 335 per kg
Gadani, and why efficiency did not save it
Pakistan's ferrous supply is shaped by one place. Gadani, designated a port by the government in 1978, is the third largest shipbreaking yard in the world after Alang and Chittagong, and it salvages more than one million tonnes of steel a year, much of it sold domestically.
It was once the largest anywhere. In the 1980s Gadani employed more than 30,000 people directly. Competition from newer facilities at Alang and Chittagong, combined with a poor record on safety and environmental performance, cut it to less than one fifth of its 1980s output. A reduction in taxes on scrap metal has since produced a modest recovery, and it now employs around 6,000 workers.
The efficiency figure worth knowing
Gadani ranks third by volume but first by speed. A ship of 5,000 light displacement tonnes is broken there in 30 to 45 days. The same vessel takes more than six months on average in India or Bangladesh.
In a record year, 2009 to 2010, Gadani broke 107 ships totalling 852,022 light displacement tonnes, against 86 ships and 778,598 tonnes the year before.
For a domestic seller the practical read is that Pakistani mill demand for other ferrous sources moves inversely with what Gadani is landing. A busy beach means a well-supplied mill; a quiet one means your material is worth more.
Selling scrap metal in Pakistan: rules, ID and payment
Scrap imports require import permits and are subject to customs duty and sales tax; ship recycling at Gadani is regulated provincially. Domestic collection is informal, so use established dealers and keep receipts for larger lots.
Before you sell
- Check whether the quote is per kilogram or per maund.
- Karachi importers set the ferrous benchmark; inland prices are lower.
- Copper and brass are scarce and pay close to international prices.

What are scrap metal prices in Pakistan today?
Today's indicative non-ferrous prices in Pakistan are Copper Rs 2,920 per kg, Brass Rs 1,791 per kg, Radiator Rs 1,675 per kg, Wire Rs 1,407 per kg, with steel scrap at Rs 78,777 per tonne. The full board above lists all 15 scrap types with the change against the previous close.
How are scrap prices quoted in Pakistan?
Non-ferrous scrap is quoted in PKR per kg and ferrous scrap per tonne. Dealers quote non-ferrous scrap in rupees per kilogram and ferrous scrap per tonne (or per maund of 40 kilograms in some markets). Import quotes are in US dollars per tonne CFR Karachi.
Do I need ID to sell scrap metal in Pakistan?
Scrap imports require import permits and are subject to customs duty and sales tax; ship recycling at Gadani is regulated provincially. Domestic collection is informal, so use established dealers and keep receipts for larger lots.
Which scrap metals pay the most in Pakistan?
By weight, copper, then brass, then radiator, then wire. Ferrous scrap such as steel and iron pays far less per kg but moves in much larger volumes, which is why it is quoted per tonne.
Why are scrap prices in Pakistan different from US prices?
Metals are priced in US dollars on the world market, but local prices reflect the PKR exchange rate, freight to the nearest mills and smelters, import and export rules and how many buyers compete for material. Pakistani prices in rupees sit below the US reference for non-ferrous scrap and track imported material for ferrous.
