Indicative dealer prices for clean, sorted scrap. Global reference is the US board in US dollars; the Poland figure applies the exchange rate (1 USD = 3.90 PLN) and a local market factor of 1.00.
Yards quote in zloty per kilogram. Prices here are derived from the exchange settlement, converted to zloty, and adjusted by a market factor of 1.00, our assessment of a formalised European market with substantial domestic steel capacity and competitive buying points. The factor is published on the editorial policy page and is open to challenge.

Copper scrap prices by grade in Poland
Copper is not one price. Yards grade it by cleanliness, coating and gauge, and the spread from the top grade to the bottom runs 25 to 35 percent. These are the same grades used on export contracts, converted to PLN.
The scrap market in Poland
Polish scrap is unusually transparent. Punkty skupu, the buying points, publish dated cenniki showing every grade they take and what they pay for each, and many display their BDO waste database number on the same page. You can see what a yard pays before you load the car.
That transparency extends to grading. Steel scrap in Poland is assessed against POLSKA NORMA PN-85/H-15000, a national standard, and yards quote using its class codes rather than international ones. Deliveries are expected to conform to it.
The other thing to know is that Poland treats quantity as a price factor openly rather than informally. Boards routinely carry two columns for steel: one rate below 200 kilos and a higher one above it.

The most valuable scrap by weight in Poland today: Copper at zl 49.38 per kg, Brass at zl 30.06 per kg, Radiator at zl 28.43 per kg, Wire at zl 23.87 per kg, Cable at zl 15.89 per kg.
Scrap metal rates in Poland, by grade
Rates in Poland are quoted per kilogram in PLN. Typical ranges are Copper: zl 43 to zl 55 per kg; Brass: zl 26 to zl 34 per kg; Aluminium: zl 6.1 to zl 7.8 per kg; Zinc: zl 6.8 to zl 8.7 per kg; Lead: zl 4.5 to zl 5.7 per kg; Stainless steel: zl 4.3 to zl 5.5 per kg. Across common non-ferrous grades that puts most material between zl 4.3 and zl 55 per kg, with copper at the top of the range and stainless steel near the bottom.
These are ranges rather than quotes. The band reflects day-to-day movement in the metal market and the spread between one yard and another, which our own research has found can reach 40 percent or more for the same metal in the same city. The midpoint is derived from the international exchange settlement converted to PLN and adjusted by our published market factor of 1.00. Expect a local buyer to sit toward the lower end, because they carry collection, sorting, processing and their own margin. Always confirm the rate per kilo for your specific grade before anything is weighed.
- Copper: zl 43 to zl 55 per kg
- Brass: zl 26 to zl 34 per kg
- Aluminium: zl 6.1 to zl 7.8 per kg
- Zinc: zl 6.8 to zl 8.7 per kg
- Lead: zl 4.5 to zl 5.7 per kg
- Stainless steel: zl 4.3 to zl 5.5 per kg
Selling scrap metal in Poland: rules, ID and payment
For a domestic sale the process is straightforward and documented. Private individuals receive a formularz przyjecia, an intake form. Companies receive a karta przekazania odpadu, the waste transfer card, with the transaction recorded in BDO, the national waste database. A yard operating properly will have a BDO number and will usually publish it.
Payment practice is consistent across the trade. Private customers are generally paid in cash immediately or by transfer within about two working days. Business customers are paid by transfer, typically within two working days.
Expect a deduction for contamination. Polish boards commonly state a zanieczyszczenia allowance of around 2 to 6 percent on steel, which is applied to the weight rather than argued about afterwards. Cleaner material simply attracts a smaller deduction.
Before you sell
- Check the date on the cennik. Polish yards date their price lists, and an undated one tells you something.
- Ask which PN-85/H-15000 class your steel falls into before you agree a price.
- If you are close to 200 kilos of steel, get to it. The published rate above that threshold is higher.
- Separate copper by grade. The spread between the best and worst copper grade on a single Polish board runs to about 12 zloty a kilo.
- Expect a contamination deduction of roughly 2 to 6 percent on steel and factor it in rather than treating it as a surprise.
- Look for the BDO number. A yard that publishes it is registered; one that cannot produce it is a question mark.

Poland scrap price FAQ
Jakie sa ceny zlomu w Polsce? What do Polish yards actually pay?
Boards published in September 2026 quoted copper grades between roughly 33 and 45.50 zloty a kilo, brass between 23 and 28, aluminium between 5 and 11.30, and steel scrap between 0.70 and 0.95 depending on class and quantity. Rates move daily with the metal market, so always check the date on the cennik.
What is PN-85/H-15000?
The Polish national standard for steel and cast iron scrap. Polish yards grade against it and quote using its class codes such as ON2, ON4, ON5 and W10, and delivered material is expected to conform to it. It is the Polish equivalent of the national grading standards used in other markets.
Why are there two steel prices on the same board?
Because Polish yards publish separate rates below and above 200 kilos. On one September 2026 board, thin steel was 0.70 zloty a kilo under the threshold and 0.75 above it, with the same pattern across every steel class. Accumulating to 200 kilos raises the rate on the whole load.
What are the copper grades called in Polish?
Common board entries include milbera for heavy clean copper over 2mm, swiecaca for shiny, kawalek for pieces, niesort for unsorted, wiory for turnings, pobial for tinned and piecyk for boiler copper. The spread between the top and bottom of that list was around 12 zloty a kilo in September 2026.
What is BDO and why does it matter?
BDO is the Polish waste database register. Legitimate buying points hold a BDO number and commonly publish it alongside their price list. For company sellers the transaction is recorded there; for individuals it is a sign that the yard is operating within the system.
What documents will I get?
Private individuals receive a formularz przyjecia, an intake form. Companies receive a karta przekazania odpadu, the waste transfer card, with the transaction entered in BDO.
How and when am I paid?
Private customers are generally paid cash immediately or by transfer within about two working days. Business customers are usually paid by transfer within two working days.
What is the zanieczyszczenia deduction?
A contamination allowance, commonly stated on Polish boards at around 2 to 6 percent for steel. It is deducted from the weight rather than negotiated afterwards, so cleaner material simply carries a smaller deduction.
Which aluminium pays best in Poland?
On a September 2026 board, energetyka, electrical aluminium, led at 11.30 zloty a kilo, followed by linka, stranded wire, at 11.00 and unlacquered profile at 10.30. Cans and radiators sat at the bottom at 5.00, so separating aluminium types more than doubles the rate.
Can a yard collect from my address?
Commonly yes. Polish yards routinely offer container placement and collection for larger quantities, often with help loading, and some carry out dismantling of steel structures. Terms for collection are agreed individually rather than published.
Sources and methodology
Prices on this page start from the global reference board (US dollars per pound or per ton), are multiplied by a Poland market factor of 1.00 that reflects local demand, freight and trade rules, and are converted to PLN at 1 USD = 3.90 and to metric units (kilograms and tonnes). The board refreshes daily, with the time of the latest update shown at the top of the page.
