Copper scrap prices by grade in Turkey

Copper is not one price. Yards grade it by cleanliness, coating and gauge, and the spread from the top grade to the bottom runs 25 to 35 percent. These are the same grades used on export contracts, converted to TRY.

The scrap market in Turkey

Turkey is the largest importer of ferrous scrap in the world, and the price paid by its electric arc furnace mills for imported heavy melting scrap, quoted in US dollars per tonne delivered to Turkish ports, is the benchmark the global ferrous trade watches. Domestic collection prices in lira are set by the same mills, in the Marmara region, Izmir and Iskenderun.

Non-ferrous scrap follows LME quotes, but the lira's volatility means local prices in lira can rise sharply even when dollar prices are steady.

The most valuable scrap by weight in Turkey today: Copper at ₺632.85 per kg, Brass at ₺388.13 per kg, Radiator at ₺363.09 per kg, Wire at ₺305.04 per kg, Cable at ₺203.74 per kg.

How much is scrap metal worth in Turkey?

Scrap metal in Turkey is bought per kilogram and quoted in TRY. Typical ranges are Copper: ₺ 555 to ₺ 710 per kg; Brass: ₺ 340 to ₺ 435 per kg; Aluminium: ₺ 77 to ₺ 98 per kg; Zinc: ₺ 90 to ₺ 115 per kg; Lead: ₺ 59 to ₺ 75 per kg; Stainless steel: ₺ 57 to ₺ 73 per kg. Across common non-ferrous grades that puts most material between ₺ 57 and ₺ 710 per kg, with copper at the top of the range and stainless steel near the bottom.

These are ranges rather than quotes. The band reflects day-to-day movement in the metal market and the spread between one yard and another, which our own research has found can reach 40 percent or more for the same metal in the same city. The midpoint is derived from the international exchange settlement converted to TRY and adjusted by our published market factor of 1.04. Expect a local buyer to sit toward the lower end, because they carry collection, sorting, processing and their own margin. Always confirm the rate per kilo for your specific grade before anything is weighed.

  • Copper: ₺ 555 to ₺ 710 per kg
  • Brass: ₺ 340 to ₺ 435 per kg
  • Aluminium: ₺ 77 to ₺ 98 per kg
  • Zinc: ₺ 90 to ₺ 115 per kg
  • Lead: ₺ 59 to ₺ 75 per kg
  • Stainless steel: ₺ 57 to ₺ 73 per kg

Selling hurda at home, in the terms Turkish yards use

Everything above concerns importing into Turkey. If you are selling domestically, the trade works differently and has its own vocabulary.

Turkish hurdacilar quote in lira per kilo and update against London Metal Exchange data and the exchange rate, in some cases daily. Cable is the category where the spread is widest: indicative levels quoted across 2026 run from roughly 220 to 570 lira a kilo for hurda kablo, with individual dealers advertising around 450 lira for mixed cable.

The words to know are practical ones. Soyma bakir is stripped copper, the most valuable grade. Sari and pirinc cover brass, including musluk and vana, taps and valves. Talas is turnings or swarf. Profil aluminyum and dokum aluminyum separate extruded from cast aluminium. Cable itself is quoted by type: NYY, YVV, NYA, TTR, telefon kablosu and tek damar all price differently.

Why two identical weights are not worth the same

This is the point Turkish dealers make most often, and it is the one that decides what you are paid. Two cables weighing the same do not have the same value, because the insulation is part of that weight and none of it is copper.

What determines the copper yield is the conductor cross-section, the number of cores, and the thickness of the insulation. A thin conductor inside thick insulation weighs well on the scale and pays badly.

You generally do not have to strip cable yourself. Many Turkish dealers calculate the copper content on site and quote accordingly. Whether stripping is worth your time depends on quantity and on the cable type, and a dealer who handles a lot of cable will usually tell you honestly which side of that line you are on.

Two things that lose you money

Burning insulation off. Copper separated by burning is recognisable as such and is valued lower than cleanly stripped material, so the fire costs you twice: once in the metal you damage and once in the price.

Leaving fittings attached. Clean copper pipe sits in the valuable group, but brass valves, iron connections, plastic or solder attached to it have to be separated before it counts as clean, and that work comes out of your price if the yard does it.

Selling scrap metal in Turkey: rules, ID and payment

Scrap imports require licences from the environment ministry, and domestic dealers are licensed and keep records. Cash limits for business transactions apply, so larger sales are paid by transfer.

Before you sell

  • Watch the dollar import benchmark; domestic prices follow it within days.
  • Lira prices move with the exchange rate as much as with metal prices.
  • Marmara and Iskenderun mills are the price setters for ferrous grades.

Turkey scrap price FAQ

What is the scrap copper price per kg in Turkey today?

As of October 22, 2026, the indicative scrap copper price in Turkey is ₺632.85 per kg ($5.56 per lb on the global board). Bare bright and clean number 1 copper earn the top of the range; insulated wire, tubing with solder and mixed copper pay less.

Do I need ID to sell scrap metal in Turkey?

Scrap imports require licences from the environment ministry, and domestic dealers are licensed and keep records. Cash limits for business transactions apply, so larger sales are paid by transfer.

Which scrap metals pay the most in Turkey?

By weight, copper, then brass, then radiator, then wire. Ferrous scrap such as steel and iron pays far less per kg but moves in much larger volumes, which is why it is quoted per tonne.

Why are scrap prices in Turkey different from US prices?

Metals are priced in US dollars on the world market, but local prices reflect the TRY exchange rate, freight to the nearest mills and smelters, import and export rules and how many buyers compete for material. Turkish ferrous prices set the import benchmark and run above the US domestic reference; lira volatility moves local prices daily.
