Copper scrap prices by grade in Bangladesh
Copper is not one price. Yards grade it by cleanliness, coating and gauge, and the spread from the top grade to the bottom runs 25 to 35 percent. These are the same grades used on export contracts, converted to BDT.
The scrap market in Bangladesh
Bangladesh's scrap market has two engines: the ship-recycling yards at Sitakunda near Chattogram, which supply heavy steel plate to re-rolling mills, and imports of ferrous scrap for the large electric arc furnace mills that make the country's rebar. Both keep ferrous scrap in strong demand, and imported scrap sets the benchmark price.
Non-ferrous scrap such as copper wire, brass and aluminium is collected through Dhaka's Dholaikhal and Narayanganj markets and Chattogram, priced off international quotes converted to taka. Prices move with the exchange rate and with letter-of-credit costs for importers.
