Saab catalytic converters run about $40 to $250 for one original unit in 2026. The 9-7X, 9-2X and 9-4X bring $75 to $250, 9-5 units $75 to $225, 9-3 and older 900 or 9000 units $60 to $200, and 1.9 TiD diesel catalysts $40 to $150.
Three companies, one badge
Saab stopped building cars in 2011, and by then General Motors ownership had reshaped the range considerably. Three of the last models were not Saab designs at all.
The 9-2X was built on the Subaru Impreza, sharing its boxer engine and exhaust hardware. The 9-7X was a General Motors mid-size sport utility, built alongside the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy. The 9-4X, of which very few were made before the company folded, shared its underpinnings with the Cadillac SRX.
That matters for pricing. A 9-2X unit belongs with the Subaru figures, a 9-7X with the Chevrolet and GMC ranges, and a 9-4X with Cadillac. If a buyer looks blank at the Saab badge, those are the lists your part is actually on.

The diesel is Italian
The fourth outside connection is the one most Saab owners never suspect.
The 1.9 TiD diesel fitted to the 9-3 was the shared General Motors and Fiat engine of that period, and the catalyst databases show it. One reference lists the Saab 9-3 1.9 TDI alongside the Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTD, the Opel Signum 1.9 CDTi, an Opel Meriva and the Vauxhall Vectra.
So a 9-3 diesel catalyst is priced with a group of mainstream European cars rather than as a rare Swedish part. The Alfa Romeo, Opel and Vauxhall pages all cover the same hardware.
As with every diesel, the exhaust carries more than one saleable component. The oxidation catalyst sits at $40 to $150 and the particulate filter behind it, on 2005 and later cars, at $50 to $250. Ask which one a quote covers.
The genuinely Swedish ones
What is left after all that is the core of the brand, and it prices sensibly rather than spectacularly.
The 9-5 in 2.0 and 2.3 turbo form sits at $75 to $225. The 9-3 petrol turbo, the volume model, sits at $60 to $200. The older 900 and 9000 sit at $60 to $200 where an original unit survives.
Those are normal figures for turbocharged four-cylinder cars. There is no Saab premium and no Saab penalty, which is worth saying because owners of discontinued marques often expect one or the other.
Age is the real variable
Every Saab on the road is now at least fourteen years old, and most are considerably older. That makes originality the question that actually decides your quote.
Over that length of time a great many of these cars have had exhaust work. An aftermarket replacement brings $5 to $50 regardless of the badge, so check before building expectations: look for a stamped factory reference, real weight in the hand, and no fresh weld marks in the pipe either side of the unit.
For context on the repair side, workshop estimates put a 9-3 converter replacement at roughly $1,265 to $1,417, while aftermarket parts for a 9-2X list from about $66 to $728 with a genuine Saab item around $195. Against a car of this age, almost nobody repairs for that reason, which is why most of these units reach the trade as cores from dismantled vehicles.
Saab prices around the world
Platinum, palladium and rhodium settle in US dollars, so a Saab reference holds the same metal value in every market. Currency and local buyer depth are what change. The table converts the Saab span into each market’s money at today’s rate.

Questions people actually ask
How much is a Saab catalytic converter worth as scrap?
Between roughly $40 and $250 for one original unit in 2026. TiD diesel catalysts bring $40 to $150, 9-3 and older 900 or 9000 units $60 to $200, 9-5 units $75 to $225, and 9-7X, 9-2X and 9-4X units $75 to $250.
Is a Saab 9-2X converter really a Subaru part?
Effectively yes. The 9-2X was built on the Subaru Impreza and shares its boxer engine and exhaust hardware, so Subaru figures are the right comparison. Replacement units for it list from around $66 to $728, with a genuine Saab-branded part around $195.
What is a Saab 9-7X underneath?
A General Motors mid-size sport utility, built alongside the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and GMC Envoy. Its converter is domestic GM hardware rather than a Swedish part, so the Chevrolet and GMC ranges are the correct cross-checks.
Does a Saab 9-3 diesel converter share a reference with other cars?
Yes. One reference lists the Saab 9-3 1.9 TDI with the Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTD, the Opel Signum 1.9 CDTi, an Opel Meriva and the Vauxhall Vectra, reflecting the shared General Motors and Fiat diesel of that period.
Is a Saab converter worth less because the brand closed in 2011?
No. The precious metal content is unaffected by the company folding, and much of the range shares references with Subaru, GM or the European Fiat and GM diesel family. The real variable is age: after fourteen years or more, many units have been replaced with aftermarket parts worth $5 to $50.
Figures on this page are indicative buyer ranges for complete, uncut original units and are not offers to buy. Converter types, codes and selling rules are covered on the main catalytic converter price page.

Does a Saab 9-3 diesel converter share a reference with other cars?
Yes. One catalogued reference lists the Saab 9-3 1.9 TDI alongside the Alfa Romeo 159 1.9 JTD, the Opel Signum 1.9 CDTi, an Opel Meriva and the Vauxhall Vectra, reflecting the shared General Motors and Fiat diesel of that period.
Is a Saab converter worth less now the brand has closed?
No. The company folding in 2011 did not change the precious metal content, and much of the range shares references with Subaru, General Motors or the European Fiat and GM diesel family. Age matters more: many units have since been replaced with aftermarket parts worth $5 to $50.
What does it cost to replace a Saab 9-3 catalytic converter?
Workshop estimates put it at roughly $1,265 to $1,417. Against a car now at least fourteen years old that rarely makes sense, which is why most Saab units reach the trade as cores from dismantled vehicles rather than from repairs.
