Scrap Metal Prices in Jakarta Today

Scrap metal prices in Jakarta today in rupiah per kilogram, for the person with a pile in the yard rather than a container to fill.

Updated · Prices in IDR per kg and per tonne · Reviewed by the Scrap Price Today editorial team

Jakarta generates more scrap than anywhere else in Indonesia and consumes almost none of it. For an ordinary seller that means a dense, competitive collection market where the first price you are offered is rarely the best one available within a few streets.

The scrap market in Jakarta

Jakarta is a generator rather than a consumer. The mills are elsewhere, so metal collected here moves out to Banten, West Java and East Java to be melted. What the city has instead is the densest collection network in the country, running from individual collectors through neighbourhood buyers to larger yards that consolidate for the mills.

That layering is the thing to understand as a seller. Every step between you and the furnace takes a margin, and in Jakarta there are more steps available than in most cities. Selling to the first person who offers is convenient. Walking your material one layer up is usually worth more per kilogram than sorting it better.

The informal collection economy is substantial and it is how a great deal of material enters the chain. Metal reaches a yard whether or not the person who found it had a licence, which keeps supply liquid and prices competitive, but it also means paperwork and provenance vary from buyer to buyer.

Where the scrap yards are in Jakarta

  • Neighbourhood collection points across the five municipalities, the first layer of the chain.
  • Consolidating yards on the industrial edges of the city, buying for mills outside Jakarta.
  • The Tangerang and Bekasi industrial belts either side of the capital, where commercial volume goes.

What pays well in Jakarta

  • Copper in any form, which carries several times the value of steel by weight.
  • Aluminium from window frames, cooking pots and vehicle parts.
  • Separated brass from taps, fittings and hardware.

Selling scrap metal in Jakarta: rules, ID and payment

For a domestic sale the practical rules are simple and they matter more here than the regulations do. Agree a price per kilogram before anything is weighed, separate copper and brass from steel beforehand, and ask two or three buyers rather than accepting the first figure. The import rules that shape Indonesian trade do not touch a household or workshop sale; they are the importer's problem.

Before any sale, check the live board above, sort by grade and get quotes from two or three buyers; the best scrap price guide covers the routine and the calculator turns a weight into a figure at today's price. To judge whether a local quote is competitive, our note on telling a well-paying yard from a headline rate sets out the benchmark test.

Jakarta scrap price FAQ

What is the scrap copper price in Jakarta today?

As of the latest update, the indicative price for clean number 1 copper is about Rp 205,458 per kg in IDR. Jakarta yards typically quote within a few percent of that figure either side, depending on grade, volume and the buyer; the live board above shows all fifteen grades.

Where does Jakarta scrap actually go?

Out of the city. Jakarta generates the most scrap in Indonesia and melts almost none of it, so material moves to mills in Banten, West Java and East Java. The yards here consolidate and ship rather than process.

How do I get a better price in Jakarta?

Sell one layer up. The collection chain here has more steps than most cities, and each takes a margin. Going from a neighbourhood collector to a consolidating yard usually gains more than improving your sorting does.

Do Indonesian import rules affect a domestic sale?

No. The licensing, surveyor reports and transshipment rules apply to imported material. A household, workshop or commercial sale within Indonesia is an ordinary transaction.

Are Jakarta prices different from the national board?

The board on this page is the Indonesia indicative level, and Jakarta yards trade around it rather than exactly on it. Local competition, freight to the nearest consumer and the day's export demand set the spread, which is why two quotes in the same city can differ by several percent on the same morning.

Sources and methodology

The Jakarta board uses the Indonesia indicative prices: global exchange benchmarks (COMEX copper, CME aluminum and steel, NYMEX platinum and palladium, IMF monthly lead, zinc and nickel) multiplied by typical yard recovery shares, a local market factor of 0.90 and the day's exchange rate. The full method, the recovery shares and the correction policy are on our editorial policy page; local notes on this page are reviewed against published dealer information and reader corrections sent to info@scrappricetoday.com.

Prices are indicative and for information only; they are not offers to buy or sell. Yard quotes in Jakarta vary by grade, volume, condition and buyer.
